Ives – Three Places in New England

Old World meets New World in this concert, which spans centuries and continents to show the full breadth of what an orchestra can do. Captivating and commanding, soloist Karen Gomyo performs Brahms’ Violin Concerto, which spans from lovely lyricism to exuberant energy. Brahms’ friend and colleague Dvořák is represented with the first of his Slavonic Dances, which opens the evening with spirited Czech dance music.

With these performances, the Nashville Symphony will also complete a forthcoming recording of John Adams, who calls My Father Knew Charles Ives “a musical autobiography, an homage and encomium to a composer whose influence on me has been huge.” This stunning piece has gorgeous, expansive passages that offer a vivid and personal response to Ives’ own evocative Three Places in New England.
